Big event today at the #Hindu temple . After 35 years of service, the first priest of this temple is "retiring" to a great fan fare. (Priests don't really retire, ever, but they can step back.)When he started as the sole priest, not many people visited the temple even tho it is open morning and evening. When I would go, there was often just me, the priest, and the gods. I didn't mind it, there was no sound except for the priest's chanting, so it was a very meditative atmosphere. (I missed these moments when things changed.)Gradually the Indian and other Hindu communities grew and now there are a hundred people, give or take, that visit each day.Throughout all this time he encouraged and supported the community, was there for everyone and never wavered in doing the rituals even when no-one else was there.Hindu Priests are not like christian ministers. Their role is not outreach, it is just about the rituals, chants, and keeping the temple a sacred space. But he supported where he could, advised, pushed, cajoled and was kind to all and sundry.His wife is a stunner, even at her advancing age, an accomplished Indian dancer and violin player (in the Indian style). His chanting has to be heard to be believed. What a voice.I have a very soft spot for him, an amazing person, and his whole family ❤️ #Indian
